What is it?

The International Sketchnote Camp is the annual gathering of enthusiastic people about sketchnotes (visual note-taking), visual communication, graphic recording and everything about it. The event was created in 2017 when four German ladies invited the international sketchnote community in Hamburg for the first barcamp ISC17HH. The following years, the community was invited to gather in Lisbon for ISC18LX (2018), then in Paris for ISC19FR (2019).

The specificity of the event is that it is organized on a non-profit basis by volunteers members of the community. The spirit of the gathering is sharing knowledge and practices, meeting peers, and having fun being together and drawing.

Who can participate?

The event is open to all! You are welcome whether you are a beginner or an expert in visual note-taking techniques. By visual techniques, we mean sketchnoting of course, but also graphic recording, graphic facilitation, and all other visual techniques that help an individual or group achieve their goals in connecting ideas and people.

The typical participant is someone who likes pencils, markers, sketchbooks, maybe also ipad + pencil, and who scribbles as much on the paper napkin as on the great paper of a notebook.

Format of the event

The ISC21BE will take place online only!

During three days, you will have the opportunity to meet other practitioners from around the world. Together, you will be able to learn, discover, and exchange best practices.

To help you get the most out of it, several sessions are organized in parallel during the day, with a mix of:

  • Scheduled sessions, where external speakers or participants come on stage to present a prepared topic or organise a hands-on workshop. No rhetoric, no self-promotion, just sharing and taking care of the audience. Contact us if you want to offer a scheduled session.
  • BarCamp format sessions, where participants (meaning “you”) take their responsibility and self-organize the agenda on the spot, relying on their passion. You schedule your own sessions by putting a Post-It note on a ‘grid’ of sessions.  Again, no rhetoric, no self-promotion, just sharing and taking care of your audience.

The ISC21BE edition

The ISC21BE edition is organised by a non-profit organisation in Belgium called ASBL SKETCHNOTE BELGIUM. See who are the organisers.

During his keynote speech at ISC19FR, Mike Rohde set direction for the 4th sketchnote Camp 2020: “People think that drawing is fun. Sketchnotes can change people live, sketchnotes will change the world.” It became clear for us, organisers, that the main theme of the (2020 cancelled edition) 2021 edition will be:

#SketChange

Sketchnotes for impact, sketchnotes for change

“#SketChange” or the power of sketchnotes to change the individual, the collective, the society, the world, one sketchnote at a time.

Mike also sent a message to the attention of each member of the community: Become an amazing family.

We started by being acquaintances at ISC17HH in Hamburg. We became friends at ISC18LX in Lisbon. We are now a family since ISC19FR in Paris. Let’s become an amazing family at ISC20BE in Belgium!

“Since always, I love bringing people together. Passion, talent and creativity are my fascination. There will be all this at the #ISC20BE. I hope that these 3 days will be filled with connection to oneself and to others to diffuse positive energy thanks to the inspiration, beauty and lightness that will come out of our magicolors.”

Valentine Anciaux

“We will be able to face today’s challenges by giving ourselves the means to develop personal power and collective intelligence, thanks to creativity, global vision and a “head-heart-body” approach. This is the contribution of the International Sketchnote Camp! Let’s vibrate together for change!”

Quentin de Bournonville

“I see every day the power of drawing to change the setup of a meeting and its participants’ mindset. They gradually move towards more active listening with a more open, connected and creative mind. This leads to making better decisions that are more respectful of the general interest and less centered on the egos.”
